The fast-growing popularity of New Brunswick born, Laura
Tillack is gaining huge momentum in Leduc, AB, Canada. She is a woman of many
hats (or Superhero capes!) and works countless hours with a true passion for
helping her clients achieve their health and fitness goals. There are many people
within the fitness industry who are available to the public, but not so many
that have the combination of credentials that Tillack has: she is not only a
certified fitness instructor (see full credentials below), she is a massage
therapist and nutrition specialist as well! When first stepping into Tillack's location, True Touch
Massage Therapy and Fitness (TTMTF), one can see where she places her
priorities on: her family and her community. (see photos) In fact, the wall in the
main gym where she holds fitness classes such as Zumba, Yoga, and Kickboxing
(full classes offered can be found on Facebook & www.truetouchmtf.com) has images of her
family painted onto the wall. The main foyer has a tree adorned with photos of
her staff members, a ‘Family Tree’ as she calls it, evoking warmth to those
first walking into the location. In addition, there are several photos of
Tillack and her specialist team participating in events like a
‘Zumbathon’ (she and her team raised $4832 in late 2012 for the Children’s
Stollery Hospital in Edmonton, AB. Tillack!).

“We have initiated and participated in at least 12 different
fundraising events in the last couple years and we plan on
continuing,” she said. In fact, Tillack has organized a team to participate in
the upcoming ‘Color Me Rad 5k” run in Edmonton for July 6th, 2013
(again, proceeds go towards the Stollery Hospital). “I like being able to give back to the
community in some way and getting my clients out and enjoying themselves. It’s
for good causes so that’s a bonus.”
What inspired Tillack to be the driving force behind these
initiatives was her own desire to learn about the Fitness and Health industry
while also being available at home to raise her young children. “I always had
an interest in fitness and massage. However, I also wanted to be at home and
available for my girls as my husband works away a lot. I needed to find a way
that I could still be home and also do something I love, which at the time was
massage therapy. My interest in fitness grew when I realized that I could be
helping my clients prevent injury in
the first place,” she said. Soon after, Tillack moved her business from her
home and into her current business location.
Tillack became so busy with clients that her staff grew from
one to 14 within a short span. Her ‘family’ team is comprised of five certified
Massage Therapists, Yoga/Fitness Kickboxing/Zumba/Martial Arts, and Self
Defense instructors. The location itself is a main-level building (easy access
for those with injuries that prevent them from climbing stairs) with a large
gym, a smaller gym (for one on one fitness training), massage therapy rooms and
one room for Janssen (laser skin
treatments, rejuvenation and hair removal – see website for more details) In
addition, Tillack is the Premier Sponsor for ‘Mommy Connections’ in Leduc and
Beaumont, a pre/post-natal & toddler program (details also on the website)
geared towards educating new moms and moms-to-be on health, education, and
development for toddlers.
With all of these programs, professionals and credentials
neatly wrapped up in a bow under one roof, Tillack and her team are able to
help clients from aches and pains to beauty regimens and beyond. And if this isn’t
enough, Tillack also coaches her clients on proper nutrition and supplements
too! She recently gained weight on purpose
just so she could show her clients that it can
be done with proper diet and fitness. “I wanted my clients to know that they
are not alone on their journey and that they have my support. I have seen some
people not even be able to do one push-up when they first began (training) with
me and now they can do twenty in no time flat! I believe in helping them
through their frustration because I have been through them myself. There are so
many ways to pick up a person’s self-esteem and confidence and fitness is one
of them,” she said.
“We also offer nutrition and wellness counseling programs
for our clients. Knowing the best daily dietary requirements are important for
overall success. When I am working one on one with a client, I encourage them
to cut out something once a week. Slow changes are more doable and there’s less
room for failure. I was 210 pounds once so I know how challenging this can all
be. I just want to help my clients gain strength, knowledge, and confidence. A
quote that I truly believe in (from Oprah Winfrey) is this: ‘Your life is
validated in your service to others, you become what you BELIEVE’.”
What a Trooper! Keep on keeping on Laura!
